The overwhelming majority of restaurants require only a single menu definition, but multiple menus can be defined, if necessary. Each menu category is assigned to a single menu  definition so that restaurants that use multiple menus with different items on each menu may enable menu definitions only during the specified time frame. For example, a fast-food restaurant that uses a breakfast menu before 11AM and a lunch menu after 11AM may define 2 menu definitions. Note that each menu category is assigned to one menu definition only, so menu categories (or menu items) cannot be shared among multiple menus.

 

To define additional menus, open the menu category editor and click the green +  (Add Menu Definition) button. Enter a unique name and click OK. Select the new menu definition from the drop-down list and click the Edit button to open the menu definition editor. You may specify whether to use large or small buttons, the days/time range that the menu should be used and other criterion such as the beverage category.

 

Using multiple menus with overlapping times or using multiple menus with no menu defined for every possible time range will prevent the order entry screen from properly displaying menu categories. Ensure that a menu is defined for all possible time ranges. When using a single menu, set the time on equal to the time off to ensure that the menu definition is always active.

 

 

 

 

The following values can be modified to customize each menu definition:

 

Menu Name: Enter a short name to appear on the drop-down list on the menu category editor

Menu Short Name: Reserved for future use in reports

Time On/Time Off: Set both values to be the same if only one menu definition is used. Otherwise, ensure that the time range for multiple menu definitions do not overlap and that all business hours are covered.

Large Category Buttons: Set to Yes to use 5 large menu category buttons per screen; No to use 10 half-height buttons per screen

Default Category: his value is no longer used. It has been superseded by the Order Type default menu category

Beverage Category: this value is for use only when the mandatory beverage selection option is enabled
