Setting Up Your Cash Drawers
Your Point Of Sale system is capable of using up to two cash drawers per terminal. The currently supported cash drawers interfaces are:
| • | Serial |
| • | Printer-Driven |
| • | USB (APG Type) |
Note: For 2-drawer terminals, both drawers must use the same type of interface.
|
Setting up cash drawers interface |
Printer-driven cash drawers, a single cash drawer connects to the printer by using an RJ11 cable. If two cash drawers are used on a single terminal, a "Y-Connector" must be used. Cash drawers used for Star and Epson printers are different , although the interface may appear identical and use the same connector (one uses a 12V Solenoid, the other a 24V Solenoid). The drawers are NOT interchangeable.
After connecting the cash drawer(s) to the printer, enter the correct codes for your printer/drawer combination. Open the cash drawer configuration screen by clicking the "Test Drawer" in Back Office · Program Setup · Peripherals · .
Serial cash drawers must be connected to individual serial ports on the terminal. If your terminal only has one serial port, you may use a USB-to-Serial converter that allows a USB port to act as a virtual serial port.
USB cash drawers connect to the USB ports on the terminal. Install the APG device drivers provided with your cash drawer and open the MS Windows Device Manager to determine the USB port assignments (after connecting the drawers). The drawer is then configured in Back Office · Program Setup · Peripherals · .
Enter Control Codes: Locate the control codes in your cash drawer/printer documentation and enter the values with each value separated by commas as shown in the list below. If the code contains a letter (A-F), it is in hex and must be converted to decimal.

Cash Drawer Usage
Your system is capable of using up to two cash drawers per terminal. The following information applies to users with 2 cash drawers connected to a single terminal.
Two methods are available for automating cash drawers. First, you may configure a cash drawer to open depending on the hour of day. The second option is to configure the cash drawer to open depending on the server. Read below for details on each method.
I. Set Active Cash Drawer Depending On Hour Of Day
This method is useful for businesses with shared cash drawers (i.e. more than one user uses the same drawer), or where the manager is not always available to change the drawer when the shift is over.
To set up the hour for each drawer to open, select Cash Drawers from the list in Back Office · Program Setup · Peripherals · on the drop-down list and select Dual next to Drawer Type. Scroll down to Hourly Drawer Assignment and select the drawer that should open for each hour of the day. These settings must be configured on each terminal independently.
II. Set Active Cash Drawer Depending On The User
In Back Office · Program Setup · Main Settings , click the General Settings tab and expand the Security category. Select Yes next to Assign Cash Drawers. In Back Office · Program Setup · Peripherals · , select Cash Drawers from the list in on the left button bar and select Dual next to Drawer Type.
When users first logs in, they must select a drawer to clock in. This drawer is now their default drawer for the entire shift. If the drawer must be changed mid-shift, the manager can change the drawer assignment on the Manager screen by pressing the SYSTEM button followed by the CASH DRAWERS button.
Serial Drawer Configuration
When installing a cash drawer with a serial interface, consult the user manual to determine the characters that trigger the drawer open mechanism. Most drawers offer the ability to change the character(s); default (factory) settings are generally correct on most systems. For example, the APG serial cash drawer contains a series of DIP switch banks located on the underside of the drawer. The last DIP switch banks determines the characters that open the drawer. The factory settings are two left brackets, [[. Enter this value in the box next to Serial Drawer Trigger* in the hardware configuration screen, as shown below.
